Following on from the success of 'Warriors for Well-being: Yoga for Self-Care.....and Client Aftercare", we start the year with something to unscrunch those wintery muscles and benefit you, your practice and your clients.

The morning will consist of three shorter sessions:

YOGA with Debbie Wingell.
Yoga brings a multitude of benefits to us, helping flexibility, strength, good breathing, relaxation and focus, as well as providing a wealth of safe exercises which can be passed on to clients for their self-care. For anyone who has not done yoga before, it is NOT all about tying yourself in knots! Yoga can be particularly useful when you feel overwhelmed or burnt out by emotional offloading from your clients.

Debbie has been an MTI practitioner for the past 11 years. She is not a yoga teacher, but a very enthusiastic student! She started practising yoga primarily to help settle her busy brain, and she absolutely loves it. She has a (usually) daily home practice. Debbie has a particular interest in mental health; she's intrigued by how the body and mind interact, interconnect and work together, as well as the difficulties faced when things don’t all work the way they should. That interest is probably due in no small part to having lived with depression herself for over 30 years, and she now uses a variety of techniques to help keep herself as well as possible.

STRETCH-SHARE, facilitated by Debbie. Come along with a really good stretch to share, especially if it's an area for which a stretch is not so obvious. This will benefit ourselves and improve our toolkit of stretches to give clients. If you don't have anything you want to share, you can learn!

ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE with Jonathan Drake. Jonathan will give us an introduction to how Alexander Technique can help us with comfortable posture in our practice.

Alexander Technique teaches you to move:
- With less effort & stress
- Using less tension &
- With more freedom & lightness of movement.

He has taken a special interest in applying AT to improving fitness and prevent injury and has recently published an e-book on Rowing Technique from a Holistic Perspective. He also teaches the Art of Swimming and Tai Chi.

The afternoon will be MASSAGE SWAPS:

To quote an article in Massage Magazine (Diane Matkowski):

'YOU CAN'T SUCCEED IN MASSAGE UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW MASSAGE FEELS TO YOUR OWN BODY....I often ask massage therapists I mentor, “When was the last time you had a massage?” Many times, they cannot even remember. As a massage therapist, your body is literally the tool you use to do your work. It is difficult to ignore your body as your most valuable asset.

To be a true massage professional is to realize you cannot become an expert at massage without taking care of your body through receiving ONGOING massage........ If you are giving massage, you will need to be not only an advocate for receiving massage but a receiver yourself.....Most things in the world need rejuvenation.........You need your own self-care regimen, or it will be much more difficult to be an advocate for self-care.'

Do come and join us for this fruitful day!
