Like Sue I am also a psychotherapist. In this profession supervision is mandatory. It’s many years ago when I ran the first workshop in MTI to help our trainers get a handle on why it’s so important to have someone to go to and share triumphs and challenges. ‘Two heads are better than one’ is the bottom line.

So often I hear my students and supervisees mention that massage work can be lonely at times. If you are a member of MTI it doesn’t have to be. I’m delighted to see the recent encouragement for our members to seek supervision. It should be an enriching and insightful process and also worthwhile and enjoyable. Like Sue, I see two learners in the room. We both grow; the supervisee and the supervisor. It’s ok to enlist the help of another skilled and experienced practitioner; someone who might have been in the field longer than you. I’ve been having supervision for my work for 30 years. It’s saved me, supported me, developed me and much more. It is with my experience of how invaluable my supervision has been that helps me to offer it to others. I offer both group and individual supervision in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
