Massage for wellbeing - Stress Awareness Month
This week's Stress Awareness Month item is a summary of the research into the effects of massage on emotional and psychological health. It was prepared by Sarah Bryan and Diana Newson of our research group and shows just how beneficial massage can be for those with depression, anxiety.

'Research indicates that massage therapy has a positive impact on emotional well-being, in both healthy adults and those with mental health conditions. A key theme is that the amounts of intervention given are highly variable, as there is no clear indication in the literature of how much massage therapy is needed for a positive outcome. Further research could benefit from investigating the role of mental health status and different levels of massage intervention in determining treatment outcomes. Clearly defined outcome measures are also essential to determine the specific effects of massage.'
