Vaccination roll out in Scotland, guidance for members
A programme of vaccination commenced in Scotland yesterday (8th Dec), with those who will be administering the vaccines getting the vaccine first, followed by high-risk groups. Current vaccines require two doses between 21-28 days apart.
All therapists must maintain their strict Covid-19 protocols even if their client has been vaccinated. The client and therapist should continue to wear a face-covering for their treatments, with ample room ventilation, and continued cleaning between clients.
The site of the injection is a local contraindication, and so should not be massaged over for at least 48 hours. Clients who have received the vaccine may feel slightly unwell after the vaccination. Some people have reported high temperatures for a few days.
SMTO suggests that clients refrain from massage for between 5-7 days post-vaccination just in case they do feel unwell where massage would be counterproductive.
