About the School

About Hands-On Training

Hands-On Training specialises in:

  • CPD workshops for therapists across all levels of practice and experience;
  • the MTI-accredited Holistic Massage Diploma for those who wish to train professionally;
  • the Sports & Performance Diploma for qualified practitioners wishing to specialise further.

Founded by Earle Abrahamson and Jennie Parke Matheson, Hands-On Training focusses on learning through doing and uses an interactive approach to engage therapists with learning and professional development. Through their range of workshops, Hands-On Training aims to develop both clinical and business skills by promoting a culture of excellence, networking and scholarship.

Hands-On Training is proud of its philosophy of active engagement. It is unique in its approach and brings this experience into the workplace, so that therapists benefit from a community of practice and learning after they graduate.

About the Tutors

Earle Abrahamson

Earle Abrahamson is an internationally published author, scholar, registered therapist, psychologist, educator and teaching fellow. He has qualifications and expertise in physical education, sports therapy, clinical psychology and educational practices. He is a qualified advanced soft tissue specialist, and has extensive experience in sports massage therapy.

He currently co-chairs the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, is a principal fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and has received the honour and status of senior practitioner in sports massage therapy with the British Register of Complementary Practitioners.

He is a fellow of the Institute for Complementary and Natural Medicine and received the outstanding contribution to complementary medicine award in 2012. Earle is an elected member of the CNHC massage Profession Specific Board, is Vice Chair of the GCMT and Chair of MTI.

Jennie Parke Matheson

Jennie Parke Matheson had a career in arts administration and creative production before re-training as a therapist.

She established her private practice, White Wave, in 2008.

She combines touch therapies: Deep Tissue, Indian Head, Pregnancy and Hot Stone Massage, with hands free energy work: healing and meditation.

Jennie is a qualified Massage in Schools Instructor, teaching peer massage programmes in primary schools.

She recently joined the practitioner register of the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine, for treating performers and artists.

Jennie was the London and Home Counties representative for MTI from 2012-2014, and produced the 2014 MTI Annual Conference in London.

Jen Wren

Jen Wren is a professional dance artist, physical therapist and soft tissue practitioner, specialising in work with athletes and dancers.

She offers a refined physical therapy practice which includes advanced hands on techniques in musculoskeletal and soft tissue manipulation, neuro-kinetic therapy, kinesiology therapeutic taping, manual therapy and structural re-balancing with a strong interest in anatomy lines and fascial release.

Holistic Massage Diploma

Holistic Massage Diploma

Running for 10 months this Level 4 part-time course is delivered over 22 days (11 weekends). It is open to anyone wishing to train professionally as a massage therapist. Entry is through attending an introduction and taster day.

The syllabus draws together theory and practice, and provides an excellent basis to enable students to gain a highly sought after industry qualification.

On completion of the diploma, graduates are qualified to practise as a massage therapist and eligible for registration with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

Sports & Performance Diploma

Running over eight months, this Level 5 part-time course is delivered over 24 days (eight weekends).

It is open to qualified soft tissue practitioners, fitness trainers and other healthcare professionals. Entry to the diploma is through an interview process.

The programme integrates theory with practise and provides the student with extended knowledge in anatomy, biomechanics, and sport science.

Graduates are equipped to treat and rehabilitate a range of sport and exercise injuries, pathologies and disease conditions.

On completion of the diploma, graduates are qualified to practise as a sports massage therapist.
