About the Tutor

Tim Bartlett

Tim Bartlett has taught the MTI Holistic Massage diploma since 2004 and took over from Darien Pritchard at Cardiff Met in 2008.

Tim’s background in person-centred planning for those with autism taught him about people, stress and lifestyle issues and sparked ongoing interest in working with the body and mind.

He also teaches Sports and Remedial Massage at BCMB in Bristol and has a private massage and bodywork practice there.

In practice, he combines remedial and holistic skills to provide a rounded, client-centred approach to bodywork.

Holistic Massage Diploma

The MTI diploma is offered as a stand-alone qualification over nine months starting each September, or as part of the BSc (Hons) in Complementary Healthcare (three years full time, five years part time). The degree also includes qualifications in Clinical Reflexology and Clinical Aromatherapy at Level 5, which can be studied as independent qualifications.

Holistic massage is taught one day per week (a Monday) over 24 weeks during academic terms starting in September and finishing in May. In addition to the holistic massage classes, students also study anatomy and physiology and Introduction to Research modules. In total, the attendance requirement is one full day and two half days per week over the academic terms, as well as attending twelve hours of supervised clinics over the course term on some Wednesdays.

Throughout the course there is a strong emphasis on body use and self-care, and all aspects of developing as a professional practitioner. The evidence-based approach to working with a broad range of conditions will give students the confidence to work as a self-employed therapist in a range of settings. Techniques, approaches and skills, from deep tissue work through to mindfulness and relaxation, are applied appropriately to different presenting conditions.
