Therapeutic Approaches for Long Covid, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with Ruth Duncan

Symptoms are like those of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which can be very debilitating making it hard for people to work or participate in everyday activities.
However, there are treatment approaches which can support these clients’ reducing stress and anxiety, aiding sleep, and promoting wellness.
This workshop offers practical applications drawn from current research and science that will help address the physical and emotional symptoms experienced by individuals diagnosed with Long Covid. These workshop techniques can be integrated into any manual therapy modality.
You will learn :
- the current evidence, science and research of Long Covid,
- the similarities with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,
- highly practical manual therapy techniques to assist breathing and enhance recovery
- cranial techniques to promote relaxation
- the theory of the vagus nerve and approaches to promote parasympathetic activation
Ruth is the founder of Myofascial Release UK which has provided comprehensive and highly practical workshops for healthcare professionals for 20 years. Ruth has authored her own book on myofascial release, now in its second edition, and has lectured nationally and internationally on myofascial release, chronic pain and pain science.
In 2021, Ruth gained a BSc First Class (Hons) in Health Sciences and a PGCert in Pain Science to further her own education and to enhance her training programmes.
Ruth's passion is to support the manual therapy profession educating therapists on the mechanisms of touch and pain and the value of evidence informed practice moving away from outdated paradigms of what we think we are doing when we apply manual therapy, to an enhanced understanding of modern manual therapy better suited to work with chronic pain, trauma and mental health issues.
Ruth is the Vice Chair of the Scottish Massage Therapists Organisation (SMTO) and an advisor for the General Council for Soft Tissue Therapies (Massage Therapy) (GCMT) which is the leading UK body for the soft tissue therapies profession. She is also a past committee member of the Association of Physical and Natural Therapists (APNT) and a past consultant for the British Fascia Symposium.
